Our Mission
We are shaping change in Baden-Württemberg

We serve as Baden-Württemberg's "workshop for the future"

The foundation was established in 2000 and is one of the largest operating foundations in Germany. As an independent and non-partisan foundation of the state, we are particularly committed to the people of Baden-Württemberg. With a clear mission and a clear attitude, we shape change - in society and culture, in education and in cutting-edge research. For a future that is not based on the ‘I’ but on the ‘we’. We are committed to a vibrant civil society and promote social and cultural participation. With ideas and investments in business and science, we are committed to creating a sustainable Baden-Württemberg worth living in.

We are shaping change - since the year 2000

The foundation (it was called ‘Landesstiftung Baden-Württemberg’ until 2010) was established on 1 January 2000 from former state holdings. It is based in Stuttgart and has the legal form of a non-profit limited company (gGmbH). The foundation's capital comes from the state holding company ‘Landesbeteiligungen Baden-Württemberg’, which has existed since the early 1980s, and from the sale of the state's shares in EnBW to Électricité de France (EdF).

The assets of the foundation, totalling around 2.3 billion euros, are mainly invested in investment funds, real estate and company shareholdings. The foundation's programmes are financed by the dividends of 30 - 40 million euros per year. The foundation is responsible for managing the charitable project area. The Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Finance is responsible for asset and investment management as well as property management.
